DQA Request for Proposals on Testing Patient-Reported Outcome Measures
The Dental Quality Alliance (DQA) has released a request for proposals (RFP) to conduct feasibility, reliability and validity testing to further refine DQA-developed patient-reported outcome performance measures (PRO-PMs) aimed at assessing oral-health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The deadline for receipt of proposals is March 15, 2024; 5 pm CT. The DQA has identified PRO-PMs as a gap in oral health care quality measurement and aims to address this gap by developing PRO-PMs. The focus of this RFP is to develop PRO-PMs that are intended to be used as oral health care quality measures for the adult population, with measurement at the program (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid) and plan level.
Fluoridation Information from AAP
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has launched a new and extensive webpage on Fluoridation. The page is linked to the Campaign for Dental Health website and provides numerous downloadable resources for health professionals and families. Topics are addressed using frequently asked questions, fact sheets, videos, and printable information sheets in English and Spanish.
MCHB Releases Updated Title V Information System Web Reports
The Title V Information System from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) provides financial, programmatic, and performance measurement data for the Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Block Grant Program, based on the FY 2024 applications and FY 2022 annual reports submitted by the 59 states and jurisdictions. Title V, a federal block grant program, is a key source of support for promoting and improving the health of the MCH population, including children with special health care needs. In FY 2022, approximately 93 percent of pregnant women, 99 percent of infants, and 61 percent of children nationally benefited from a Title V-supported service. Protect Children’s Oral Health with Medicaid and CHIP
Children with health insurance experience a significantly lower rate of oral health issues as opposed to their uninsured counterparts. As part of comprehensive free or low-cost health coverage through Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), eligible families have coverage for dental services including check-ups, x-rays, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, fillings, and more. The Connecting Kids to Coverage National Campaign, an outreach and enrollment initiative that reaches out to families with children and teens eligible for Medicaid and CHIP, offers outreach materials to promote oral health and encourage families to enroll their eligible children in Medicaid or CHIP. Enrollment in Medicaid and CHIP is open year-round; however, coverage must be renewed annually. Parents and caregivers should enroll their child today, or if already covered, call their dentist to schedule an appointment. Unwinding: Medicaid and CHIP Eligibility and Renewals
During the COVID-19 pandemic, people enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP were not required to renew their coverage. States have resumed the yearly process of Medicaid and CHIP eligibility renewals and are contacting people to determine if they are still eligible for Medicaid or CHIP. This redetermination and disenrolling those who are no longer eligible or whose eligibility could not be determined is a process commonly referred to as “unwinding." You have a trusted voice to help share important information on Medicaid and CHIP renewals with your audiences. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has a variety of resources available to help partners share information about the renewal process. With help from stakeholders, families across the nation can be educated about the benefits of Medicaid and CHIP so they can start the new year on a healthy note.
