Advancing Language Access: A Community-Centered Approach to AI Translation

Description:
The CTSI Community Engagement Team invites you to join us for our upcoming webinar, “Advancing Language Access: A Community-Centered Approach to AI Translation” on Monday, November 9th, from 12:00 PM- 1:00 PM PST.

As AI-assisted translation becomes more common in research, it offers new opportunities to expand language access. But meaningful translation involves more than accuracy alone. Regional language differences, inclusive terminology, cultural context, and community perspectives can all shape how information is understood and received.

Join us for a webinar exploring lessons learned from an AI translation pilot and the role of community feedback in strengthening the translation process. Panelists will share their experiences, discuss challenges and considerations that emerged along the way, and highlight the importance of community review when working with AI-generated translations.

Together, we’ll explore how researchers can use AI thoughtfully and responsibly to support language access while keeping community perspectives at the center. The session will feature a brief project overview, moderated panel discussion, and audience Q&A.

Open to all Community Members  and UCSF Employees

This webinar is hosted by the Community Engagement Team within the Clinical and Translational Science Institution (CTSI).
