This month's office hour focused on back-to-school activities and other aspects of your school dental programs.
Here are some specific ideas that came out of our conversation:
- Plan a back-to-school bash with your community partners to set students and families up for success: conduct screenings or hand out KOHA forms, provide fluoride varnish (FV) treatments if you are able, hand out dental supplies, and include other partners to donate/hand out free backpacks or provide free haircuts.
- Get creative about how to connect students to services:
- Several LOHPs are piloting remote KOHA programs to screen children and connect them with a dental home in addition to providing on-site or mobile services like x-rays, FV, sealants, and restorations. See more about this pilot in a video from the Riverside LOHP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liVfsoQgdXw.
- Connect with Gainwell/Smile, California about the possibility of bringing their mobile dental van to your county! Email [email protected] or [email protected] or your local outreach representative (see slides 11-13) for more information.
- Support KOHA data entry into SCOHR early by facilitating 1:1 trainings with school staff and utilizing resources developed by other LOHPs on the COHTAC KOHA webpage.
