It is essential to provide clear health information to enable our patients to find, access, and act on information to maintain wellness. Health literacy is multidimensional and involves the interaction of individuals, providers, caregivers, and complex healthcare systems. This session will provide an overview of the role of organizational health literacy, share strategies and techniques to improve patient understanding, locate practical tools, and discuss the current ongoing efforts of the IHS Health Literacy Workgroup to advance health literacy. We all have a role in advancing health literacy to support patients in making informed health decisions to maintain health and wellness.

This webinar is part of an ongoing health literacy campaign by the Indian Health Service (IHS).  We think there may be some useful information for oral health professionals on this webinar as well, and it complements our ongoing SMILE (Sharing oral health Messages to Improve Literacy for Everyone) Program (https://www.ihs.gov/doh/index.cfm?fuseaction=smile.display).
