Please join Orange County’s Local Oral Health Program’s Lunch & Learn on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM PT: Improving Access to Dental Care for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).

Description:

The Orange County Local Oral Health Program (LOHP) has invited Dr. Allen Wong to speak during a Lunch & Learn Study Group to support and enhance dentists' and dental auxiliary's knowledge and understanding of the unique needs of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). Through a one-hour didactic learning session with discussion and Q&A, dental providers and their staff will learn about the unique needs of individuals with I/DD and become more comfortable and potentially more readily available in treating them.  All dental providers in California, including dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dentists are eligible to attend this course and have the option of receiving 1.0 CDE credit upon completion.

Goals:

1. Increase access to dental care services for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).

2. Increase the number of dentists in Orange County who treat patients with I/DD.

Learning outcomes:

1. Participants will demonstrate a 90% or above score regarding their knowledge and understanding of the unique needs of individuals with I/DD.

  • Metric: Pre-test/Post-test Scores in knowledge and understanding of I/DD; and the unique needs of people with I/DD.
  • Baseline: Pre-test Score
  • Outcome Measure: 90% or above on Post-test

2. 90% of participants will report positive change in attitude/comfort toward treating individuals with I/DD.

  • Metric: #/% Participants reporting positive change in attitude/comfort toward treating individuals with I/DD.
  • Baseline: #/% Participants who report their attitude/comfort toward treating children I/DD.
  • Outcome Measure: #/% Participants that report a positive change in attitude/comfort when treating children with I/DD. (90%)
