This month's Office Hour brought LOHPs together for an open forum check in.

A few highlights from the Office Hour:

Networking Session Discussion

  • LOHP connections: One group discussed not knowing how to connect with other LOHPs and appreciated the opportunity to connect at the Office Hour. They encouraged any new LOHPs to reach out to their Program Consultants or COHTAC to get connected with other LOHPs.

  • School-based oral health programs: Merced LOHP is planning a school-based program with a school district. Glenn LOHP works with a dental partner that visits schools, conducts KOHA screenings, and shares the data with the LOHP; the LOHP does oral health education in the classroom.

  • Medi-Cal Dental benefit extension communication: Ventura LOHP described ongoing efforts to communicate the Medi-Cal Dental benefit extension, including advisory committee updates, sharing the Smile, California newsletters, and a planned radio show in collaboration with Smile, California targeting Indigenous communities.

Smile, California Presentation

  • Smile, California/SonrĂe, California is the bilingual Medi-Cal Dental Program awareness campaign; it is not Medi-Cal Dental. It was created to ensure everybody understands the importance of oral health, their Medi-Cal Dental benefits, and how to find a dentist.

  • The Medi-Cal Dental benefit changes were delayed until July 1, 2027, affecting some adult members based on immigration status. The presentation covered what services will remain covered once the extension ends, including emergency dental care and frequently asked questions.
