This month's Office Hour brought LOHPs together to discuss the 2027-2030 OOH RFA and the updated guidance and due dates for 2022-2027 grant deliverables.
A few highlights from the discussion:
- LOHP approaches and planned objectives for the 2027-2030 RFA:
- LOHPs reported they are focusing on continuing the work they are already successfully doing (e.g., KOHA), activities that are covered by established partners that may not need as extensive LOHP staff resources to build and maintain, and only one or two objectives (poll results suggest >90% are selecting the school-based linkages objective).
- There will be a lengthy period to refine and co-design exact work plans and evaluation/reporting measures with OOH to meet the flexible needs of each LOHP.
- Alternative funding sources LOHPs are exploring/using:
- Collaborate with local Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) departments: MCAH objectives (4.1.2 and 2.1) include oral health; there is an opportunity to leverage MCAH partners to support certain activities, including school-linked/based (4.1.2) and medical-dental integration for pregnant and postpartum individuals (2.1).
- Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) and Targeted Case Management (TCM) reimbursement: LHJs can claim federal reimbursement for certain tasks related to Medi-Cal like outreach (code 4) and program planning (codes 15 and 17). See the list of MAA activity codes shared by Stanislaus County.
- Billing Medi-Cal Dental for direct services as an LHJ and for CHW services
- Deliverables updates: COHTAC recently rearranged the landing webpage for the current OOH grant cycle, streamlining how to access resources to support deliverables by objective/activity number.
- Feedback on previously submitted deliverables: Reach out to your program consultant (PC) at OOH to discuss. You can find your current PC here.
- Community health worker (CHW) oral health trainings:
- Community Health Worker (CHW) Training and Certification Program by California Northstate University College of Dental Medicine
- California Oral Health CHW Training Program by the UCLA School of Dentistry and supported by OOH (coming soon in both English and Spanish!)
