Topic: Implementing School-Based Sealant Programs
Presenter: Dr. Kumar, CA Dental Director
What: A webinar for local oral health programs about implementing school sealants programs
When: Thursday, March 19th, 2020 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm
Focuses or topics of this webinar: There are several parts to this topic of dental programs in schools webinar. This webinar hosted by COHTAC, and in partnership with CA Department of Public Health Office of Oral Health will discuss:
- The history, rationale, evidence and recommendations
- The role of governmental public health, considerations for selecting the school-based sealant program approach, implementation steps and resources
Why: A key objective in the California Oral Health Plan is to increase the percentage of children, age six to nine years, who have received dental sealants on one or more of their molar teeth. A school-based dental program is the most effective strategy to achieve this objective. However, implementing a school-based program is challenging. It requires careful planning, effective partnership, community support, and availability of resources including tools, templates and technical assistance. The webinar will also discuss cost estimates, assumptions made and a hypothetical scenario for generating revenue that can be used for planning purposes.
